Candidate Engagement Strategies for Virtual Career Fairs

Candidate Engagement Strategies for Virtual Career Fairs

Tactics to keep candidates active, networking and converting throughout the live day — and afterwards.

Engagement starts before the door opens

Most engagement is decided pre-event. Pre-fair emails, prep guides, agenda highlights and exhibitor spotlights set expectations and prime candidates to participate, not just attend.

Open with a strong session

The first 30 minutes of a virtual fair are critical. A strong opening keynote or a 'how to make the most of the fair' walk-through anchors candidates and pushes them into booths.

Gamify the floor

A simple 'visit five booths to enter the prize draw' mechanic measurably lifts booth visits. Keep the prize meaningful — a course, a book, an interview slot — not gimmicky.

Live polls and Q&A

In webinars, polls turn passive viewers into active participants. Ask a question every 5–7 minutes and call out interesting answers from the audience.

Networking rooms and roundtables

Topic-based networking rooms ('Careers in Healthcare', 'New grads', 'Returning to work') give candidates a reason to stay and a context to introduce themselves.

Follow up within 48 hours

Engagement does not end at the closing bell. A thank-you email with the recordings, a one-click candidate survey and personalized exhibitor follow-ups extend the value of the event.
